James Wayland Davis (born January 7, 1947) is a Republican member of the North Carolina General Assembly. He represents the Senate's fiftieth district, which includes Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon,and Swain counties.
Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, Davis earned his bachelor's degree from Southern Missionary College, now Southern Adventist University in 1969, and earned his DDS degree from Loma Linda University's School of Dentistry in 1974. In 1989, he graduated from Loma Linda with his MS in orthodontics.
Davis defeated four term incumbent John J. Snow, Jr. in the 2010 and 2012 elections. He defeated Jane Hipps in the 2014 and 2016 elections.
Jim Davis is among other Republican politicians who voted to require insurance on scooters after receiving large donations from insurance companies in 2015.
